Rent Control

The majority of residents in the US rent their housing. In Chicago, Illinois and across the country, half of all renters are paying than 30% of their income on rent – with 1 out of every 4 paying more than 50% of their income on rent. This crisis will not be solved by building our way out of it. In Chicago alone, 182,000 units of new affordable housing is needed, and 20 times that amount is needed in Illinois. The only cost-effective and immediate solution is to regulate how much rent increases annually. This can be done through rent control.
